Workshop Eight
November 30, 2020   or   December 1, 2020

Summary  —  Our Learning encountered many challenges in the fall of 2020 due to COVID-19.  The original plan for this second year included a focus on collecting in-depth qualitative data via ongoing classroom observations, teacher and student interviews and focus groups and the collection of classroom artifacts.  Due to the need for virtual learning, classroom observations and online assessment and surveys with students were not possible.

However, the participating teachers did come together for a follow-up fall workshop held on Dec. 1st.  The purpose of this workshop was to regroup and to continue moving our new PuzzleMaps toward completion.  Two teams have made significant progress.  One team has focused on Washington EcoRegions and the other on the American Colonies in 1776.  We plan to finalize those designs as soon as possible so that SpherAware can generate finished PuzzleMaps based on our collaborative work in the Spring of 2021.  Then all participants will be able to share them with their students.

Key data collected in this phase will include anecdotal observations of student use from the teachers and follow-up interviews with teachers.  Students may also share their these custom puzzles with their families.
